Oriental Rug Care

Oriental rugs have been around and revered for millenia. Proper care will help you to maintain the beauty of your rug for years to come. Please follow these tips on a regular basis to keep the rug looking great:

  • Vacuum the rug regularly. Depeding on the fibers and overall integrity of the rug, you may need to adjust the suction and height settings. Always start with the lowest possible suction and highest height in order to keep from damaging your rug. The rug may be vacuumed from both the front and the back to remove dust and dirt that have accumlated over the years.

  • Immediate Stain Treatment. If you have a spill our animal accident treat the stain immediately with mild detergent and water. You can add a small amount of vinegar as well. Avoid carpet cleaning chemicals, particularly with wool rugs. If you believe the stain to be major issue, call a local and trusted cleaner immediately. We recommend LexiClean.

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight will cause colors to fade. Try to position your rug away from sunrooms and large windows. If it is unavoidable, make sure that you rotate the rug at least once per month to evenly distribute the sunlight over the whole rug.

  • Use rug pads. Rug pads will help to prevent additional wear from foot traffic, and help to protect against slips and falls.

  • Professional Cleaning. It is recommended to have your rug cleaned on a bi-annual basis, but it is essential to have the rug cleaned deeply at least once annually. This removes extra buildup in the foundation and fibers of the rug. Have large amounts of dust will damage the foundation over time. Regular cleaning also prevents potential moth and carpet beetle damage. We trust the experts at LexiClean to help all of our clients. They have multigenerational experience and expertise in cleaning and repair for any and all rugs.
